Colchester Quarry
Colchester Quarry is a significant and historically important sand and gravel quarry located in Essex.
It plays a pivotal role as one of the principal suppliers of construction materials for the County and wider region supplying a range of products to support not only local construction projects but nationally important infrastructure projects. Tarmac is proud to support the community in and around Colchester and continues to have the objective of ensuring that there is a clear and open dialogue with the residents of the communities that our quarrying operations may have an impact on.
We have produced this website in response to the desire to make information on Tarmac, the Quarry, its restoration and future development more freely and easily accessible. The intention is to develop and expand the website over time but with a focus on providing a platform to enable members of the public access to some of the key documents relating to potential future developments. We aim to be open and transparent and have therefore prepared a series of FAQs to address questions about our proposals. These have been drafted based on various questions and concerns raised during the public consultation process following the publication of the document relating to the review of the Essex Minerals Local Plan.
It is worth noting that we are at the very earliest stage of looking at options for potential future extensions to Colchester Quarry. If this site is included in Essex County Council’s Minerals Plan and we decide to proceed, any proposals would be subject to a full planning application. This would include robust environmental assessments and public consultation. The proposed site location is highlighted by a red line boundary in the site plan below.
We have a long-standing Quarry Liaison Group that facilitates ongoing communication between ourselves and the community, attended by county, city and parish councillors as well as officers from the County and the Environment Agency. If you have any further questions or need additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact us by email at [email protected].
